Getting started
What joining will actually involve
Four steps, in order, each reviewed by a person. This page describes the process as designed and states which parts exist today, because a process you cannot start is worse than a process described honestly.
Intake is not open yet
There is nothing to install and no server to join. Step one is available for development testing only; steps two to four are blocked on backend and framework work recorded on the roadmap.
Create an account on this website
Available nowRegistration is being built against the backend account endpoints. In development the portal runs against a clearly labelled local adapter.
What you will need
- A display name the community will see
- A verified email address
- Agreement to the terms and privacy policy
Submit a community whitelist application
Not yet availableWritten answers about how you approach roleplay, reviewed by a person. Decisions are recorded with a reason, and applicants can reply to requests for more information.
What you will need
- No minimum play time or referral
- A genuine interest in character-driven scenes
- Willingness to accept a no with an explanation
Create and submit a character
Not yet availableA multi-step form with saved drafts: identity, backstory, physical description and motivation. Character staff review it, and nothing is playable until it is approved.
What you will need
- A character who could plausibly exist in the setting
- A backstory that explains where they are, not just what happened to them
- Acceptance that a character may be declined with feedback
Start with ordinary work
Not yet availableEntry-level employment is the intended onboarding path: honest work, real wages, and contact with other characters in a setting where nobody is a hero yet.
What you will need
- A character with no history of crime in the setting
- A license and a vehicle you can afford
Prepare now
What you can do before intake opens
None of this is required, and none of it is scored. It is simply the preparation that makes a first application easier to write.
Read the rules properly
10 sections, each with the enforcement position. Applications are reviewed by people who have read them.
Read the philosophy
The positions behind the rules, including where the project is deliberately still undecided.
Follow the development notes
Announcements are written when work is merged, so the status of the framework is current.
Before you ask
The questions people ask first
Can I play on a Project Vice City server right now?
No. The project is in development. There is no public server, no open whitelist and no download. The website is being built alongside the server framework, and the development status page records exactly what exists today.
Will Project Vice City support GTA VI?
We are building with that transition in mind, and we will not pretend it is available. GTA VI roleplay requires a licensed, technically supported multiplayer platform. Until one exists, the project targets GTA V on FiveM, and no GTA VI server is operating or promised.
Are you affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two?
No. Project Vice City is an independent community project. We use no unlicensed game art, no third-party logos and no branding that implies endorsement.
What does "serious text-based roleplay" actually mean?
Conversations, actions and environment are written rather than spoken: local speech plus /me actions and /do descriptions. Character-driven scenes are the main activity. Shooting is something characters sometimes do, not what the server is for.
